Becoming a Lead Instructor for Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do typically involves a combination of technical knowledge, experience, course work, and demonstrated leadership skills. Here are some steps that an Assistant Instructor might take to become a Lead Instructor in Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do:

1. Practice and understand techniques and syllabus requirements: It is usually assumed that our Instructors are very good technicians, and understand the syllabus requirements for their belt level and the students that they instruct.
2. Gain experience: One of the key requirements for becoming a Lead Instructor is typically a significant amount of experience assisting classes. An Assistant Instructor may have already taught a class independently. This experience may also involve leading training sessions and reviewing material with other students.
3. Complete additional education: Many Lead Instructors have obtained degrees or certifications in karate or related fields. In addition to earning their Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do Black Belts, our Lead Instructors have degrees in sports coaching or psychology, exercise science, or child education. In addition, some Lead Instructors have degrees in business, law or engineering. Pursuing additional education can help a Lead Instructor gain a deeper understanding of the other skills required on the dojo floor, or as a dojo leader.
4. Demonstrate leadership skills: Our Lead Instructors are responsible for setting the tone within the dojo, in the quality of their teaching, compassion for other students, and embodying our Mission, Vision, and Values. Our Lead Instructors proactively assume additional responsibilities on the dojo floor, by coaching and mentoring students, coordinating or leading classes or training session, and maintaining the dojo floor and equipment.
5. Seek opportunities for advancement: Lead Instructors are keen to develop opportunities for themselves to teach, lead, and operate classes or programs now and in the future. They are keen to participate in the Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do Instructor Development Program, but completing the course, offering feedback, and actively apply what they have learned. They view the skills and experience they have gain as useful in the dojo, or in other pursuits.

Ultimately, becoming a Lead Instructor is likely to require a combination of knowledge, experience, training, and demonstrated leadership skills. By working hard, continuing to learn and grow, and seeking out opportunities to grow, you can position yourself for success!

Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do is a traditional Japanese martial art that emphasizes discipline, respect, and self-improvement. As an assistant karate instructor, you will have the opportunity to share your passion for this dynamic and rewarding discipline with others.

In this course, you will learn about the many considerations for an Assistant Instructor of Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do. This will include selecting and preparing for your class, some skills that you’ll develop as you gain experience teaching, and important considerations to always keep in mind when teaching.

Throughout the course, you’ll be supported by more experienced instructors who will provide guidance and feedback on your progress. You will also have the opportunity to practice your teaching skills through hands-on teaching experiences and by observing experienced instructors in action.

Upon completion of this course, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist a lead instructor in teaching karate to beginners and intermediate level students. You will also be well-prepared to continue your karate training and potentially earn your own instructor certification in the future.
