Dojo
Layered Experience of Our Physical Dojo
July 7, 2026|by Jin Sei Ryu
How fortunate we are as students to train in a dojo that has been our permanent home since 2005.
Thousands of people have trained on our floor. Children have grown into adults. Beginners have become black belts. Instructors have developed. Friendships have been made. Lives have been transformed.
It is true that a dojo is defined by the students who train together, regardless of the space in which they practise.
However, a dojo also carries a spirit – the collective experience, memory, and history of everyone who has trained there.
Every bow, every class, every grading, every challenge, and every personal achievement becomes part of its story.
Buildings can be constructed. Schools and clubs can be established. History, however, is lived. The collective experience, spirit and energy of generations of students become layered and layered on a dojo floor.
We are simply the current custodians of our dojo. It is our privilege to honour those who trained before us, who practise sincerely today, and who will leave their own spirit and energy for those who follow.
Osu and Gassho!
