HISTORY
OF
JIN SEI RYU KARATE-DO

Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do is the culmination of over five decades of dedicated training, reflection, and teaching by its founder, Kancho Ino Maquirang. Rooted in the traditions of Okinawan and Japanese karate, Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do represents a modern evolution of budo – a path that emphasises clarity, discipline, reflection, and kindness.

Foundations in Traditional Karate-Do

Kancho Ino began training in karate-do as a young boy. His formative years were shaped by the teachings of Grandmaster Tadashi Nakamura, founder of the World Seido Karate Organisation and a respected leader in contemporary karate. Under Kaicho Nakamura’s guidance, Kancho Ino learned the importance of:

  • serious, disciplined practice
  • respectful behaviour
  • humility and openness
  • mindful reflection
  • service to others

These principles became the foundation of his lifelong journey in martial arts.

A Journey of Teaching and Learning

As Kancho Ino progressed through the ranks, he began teaching students across Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America. His academic education— at Regis High School, Georgetown University, and New York University — strengthened his analytical approach to learning, reflection, and pedagogy, complementing his developing expertise as a martial artist.

Over more than 45 years of teaching, Kancho Ino observed the needs, challenges, and personal growth of thousands of students from diverse backgrounds. This long experience helped him refine:

  • his instructional methods
  • his approach to leadership
  • his understanding of student development
  • his belief in karate-do as a path to becoming a better human being

His reflections, expressed in essays, academic papers, books, and countless hours on the dojo floor, deepened his insight into the connectionbetween training and personal transformation.

The Emergence of Jin Sei Ryu

Through decades of teaching, Kancho Ino began to formalise a system that balanced traditional training with modern understanding. He saw thatstudents benefited not only from technical practice but also from reflective growth and the cultivation of kindness and clarity.

This vision crystallised into Jin Sei Ryu Karate-Do, which means:
